HOW TO BECOME A VOLUNTEER
Have you ever thought
volunteering your time on behalf of animals would be a personally
gratifying experience? Each year volunteers generously donate over
25,000 hours of service to The SPCA. Without volunteers, many of our
vital programs and services simply would not exist. As an SPCA
volunteer, you can be sure that your time will translate into a better
future for the animals of Monterey County.
- SPCA must be at least 18 years old
(for younger volunteers, please see our
Junior Volunteer Program)
- For those working with animals, please
be willing to make a minimum six-month commitment of three hours for
at least one day per week. The SPCA offers opportunities for
short-term volunteers as well.
All volunteers attend an interview with
our Volunteer Coordinator to learn about The SPCA. We also
offer one-on-one mentor sessions to orient volunteers to the facility
and duties prior to their first day of service. Volunteers who want to
work directly with the animals will receive specific training through
our specialized trainings.
Besides receiving the
personal satisfaction that your time translates into a better future for
the animals of Monterey County, volunteers also receive the following:
- Multiple opportunities for training
and education
- Volunteer hours may be
utilized towards community service or school requirements and can also
be included on a resume
- Working with others who share your passion for animals
- Playing an integral
part of a team that is working to improve the quality of life of
animals.
- Excellent learning
experience
