DOG AND PUPPY SOCIALS

SPCA Dog Socials are the safe alternative to dog parks. Our socials are designed for friendly, well- socialized dogs (dogs that can meet and be friendly with dogs and people they do not know). If you want to learn about dog play and dog communication through body language, come learn from our experienced trainers. Watch the videos below to watch happy, social, comfortable dogs interacting.
Our Socials are not intended for teaching your dog how to play with other dogs or rehabilitating social skills. Not all dogs are comfortable in a group of other dogs. If your dog is a rough, selective, fearful player, is avoidant with dogs, or gets over-aroused (humps or does not listen to other dog's social cues), we may suggest alternatives for play as our socials may not be the best choice for your dog. Owners of under-socialized dogs may need to speak with a behavior specialist for some help in understanding the types of activities that might help your situation. If your dog is displaying aggressive or fearful behaviors, or you are not sure where your dog might fit into training with us, please call so we might place your dog in the appropriate class or private training. 831-264-5422 or contact us.
Small Dog Social (Small Dog Socials are for dogs 8 months and over, weighing under 30 pounds)
When: Every Sunday except holidays

Puppy Socials
Our puppy socials are safe, mentored play time for puppies. Puppies entering this social do not have to have any dog social experience, however, it is to your puppy’s advantage to have met some unfamiliar dogs. You will learn about how puppies play, what and how we interrupt behavior, and when puppies need a break. Help build your puppy's confidence and social skills with our experienced and knowledgeable staff.
Puppy Socials (Puppy Socials are for puppies 4 - 7 months old)
When: Every Sunday except holidays
Location: SPCA Agility Yard, 1002 Monterey-Salinas Highway
Times: 11:30 - 12:30 pm

Rules for Dog and Puppy Socials
- Dogs over 8 months old must be spayed/neutered.
- Training waiver must be signed prior to attendance
- One dog/puppy per handler unless otherwise approved by instructor.
- Please show up 10 minutes before your social - No dogs are allowed in after the gates close
- Proof of vaccinations must be emailed or shown to us prior to first attendance
- Rabies (if old enough)
- Bordetella (Kennel Cough)
- DPP (Distemper, Parvovirus & Parainfluenza) FOR PUPPIES - DPP shot series must be complete, usually a minimum of 3 vaccinations. Puppy can attend socials a week after the vaccination.
- Recommended for Adult Dogs- Canine Flu and Leptospirosis
- No treats or toys in the agility yard
- Please wear appropriate clothing – long pants and closed toe footwear (no sandals)
- Reservations must be made prior to attending.
- If you made a reservation and cannot attend, please cancel your reservation by Friday night at midnight using the reservation software. If you release your reservation, you will not be charged. If you make a reservation, cannot come and do not cancel, you will be charged the fee for the social. If you have trouble canceling, you can also contact Sean (slindecker@spcamc.org), or call the behavior line 831-264-5422 to let us know, and allow someone else to use the booking space. Please note we cannot take any reservations or cancellations Sunday morning.
