MAKE IT RAIN FOR THE ANIMALS!

We’d like to see rain tomorrow. Not a heavy downpour and gusty winds that rattle windows and cause power outages. Just the kind of steady rain that might cause people to stay off roads and inside, curled up by the TV, preferably with a loved pet on their lap or at their feet. We’re also hoping for no big breaking news, unplanned presidential messages or the release of the Mueller Report!

Why?  Tomorrow is the SPCA’s annual “Share the Love” telethon, 6 am to 8 pm, on KSBW 8 and Central Coast ABC.

During commercial breaks of your favorite shows, fabulous KSBW news anchor Brittany Nielsen and irrepressible meteorologist Gina DeVecchio — animal lovers in their own right — will introduce heartwarming stories about animals you helped rescue, and they’ll be joined by yours truly and other SPCA staff.  You’ll learn about everything your local, independent SPCA does for pets, people, and wildlife in Monterey County.

Here’s a spoiler alert: we do a ton. Animal sheltering of every kind of animal from guinea pigs to horses, humane education for children, rehabilitation of domestic animals and wildlife, low-cost spay/neuter, animal cruelty investigation, disaster response and behavior classes.

Throughout the telethon, we’ll ask you to share your love by donating to make a difference for homeless, abused, and neglected animals in our community and for all our vital services.

You’ll hear another message throughout the day: all donations directly benefit animals in our community. The SPCA is not a chapter of any other agency and does not receive funding from national animal welfare groups. Those funds don’t trickle down to the SPCA. Not a dribble, not a drop. Everything we do is made possible by donors like you.

Please be as generous as you can and know that your gifts of any size are meaningful — critical — to the animals.  Animals like Penny, rescued by the SPCA months ago when she was found abandoned with her back legs paralyzed. Penny received acupuncture, hydrotherapy, laser therapy and spinal stimulation, as well as countless belly rubs and kisses. Her transformation due to our intensive care and TLC has been nothing short of miraculous.

Funds raised this Thursday make this work possible.  As an open-admission shelter, the SPCA is always caring for animals who need attention prior to adoption. Donations change and save many lives. This past year, we made well more than 1,100 animals who arrived with significant medical and/or behavioral needs, then found new loving homes. Dogs, cats, bunnies, horses, exotic birds and other small pets.

Throughout the day, you’ll also have opportunities for your gift to be doubled, thanks to challenge matches we’ll announce during the event.

Curl up on the couch with your four-legged companion and please tune into KSBW 8 and Central Coast ABC this Thursday from 6 am to 8 pm. We truly hopes it rains for the animals! When you share your love and pick up the phone to donate, you make these daily, extraordinary transformations possible.
